The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has agreed to investigate a confirmed case of West Nile virus in IL.

West Nile virus is primarily a bird virus that in humans causes serious illness of the central nervous system in less than 1 percent of cases, according to officials. There are no human cases so far, officials say, but the season is young.

In 2017, MS had 63 cases of West Nile.

Last year, there were 68 human cases in Nebraska, including two deaths.

Arab pressure on Abbas to accept Trump’s deal
It remains unclear how the Trump administration would proceed with a peace plan without Palestinian cooperation. Abbas now governs only small autonomous zones in the West Bank.

West Nile virus is transmitted to humans and animals by the bite of an infected mosquito.

Residents in affected areas are encouraged to eliminate standing water that can host mosquito larvae, to wear long trousers and shirts, to use insect repellent, and to limit outdoor activities during dawn and dusk, when mosquitoes are most active. In rare severe case, the symptoms are meningitis, encephalitis or death, according to IDPH.

However, four out of five people infected with West Nile virus will not show any symptoms. Make sure that your doors and windows have tight-fitting screens to keep out mosquitoes.

Monitoring for West Nile virus in IL includes laboratory tests for mosquito batches, dead crows, blue jays, robins and other perching birds, as well as testing humans with West Nile virus-like symptoms. Fix or replace screens that have tears or other openings.
