Going into this year's World Ugliest Dog Contest in Petaluma, Linda Elmquist of Tucson, Arizona, had high hopes that her dog could make another run at the title.

I think they're all dead cute and are very good boys and girls, but there can only be one victor (if you can call the title of Ugliest Dog a win) and that was Zsa Zsa the English bulldog with her unbelievably long tongue and weirdly rounded front legs.

Zsa Zsa won the title on Saturday in the competition where dogs with hairless bodies and lolling tongues flaunt their imperfections. The dogs and their handlers walk down a red carpet. The victor takes home $US1500 ($1900).

Verstappen was quicker than his team-mate in all three qualifying segments and finished almost two tenths clear. Alonso briefly climbed out of the drop zone, only to be demoted down to an eventual 16th as rivals improved.

After her photo was posted on a pet finder website, she was adopted and lives a retired life in Anoka, Minnesota.

Zsa Zsa won a $1,500 cash prize.

This year's dogs include a blackhead-covered Chinese Crested-Dachshund mutt and a bulldog mix with excess wrinkly skin. She was almost blind from neglect when she was rescued in Sonoma County, California. It is usually held on Friday nights, but organisers moved the competition to Saturday in an effort to draw a bigger audience.

On the 1989 tour, she was constantly donning the skater skirt and jazzing it up with an assortment of crop tops and sports coats. She attended her first Academy of Country Music Awards just five months before her first album was released, that was in 2006.

Last year's victor, a delightfully floppy and seemingly half-melted Neapolitan Mastiff named Martha, didn't compete this year.

Christy Gentry, the Sonoma-Marin Fair publicist, said in a statement: "The World's Ugliest Dog Contest is an iconic tradition of the Sonoma-Marin Fair". Most of the World's Ugliest Dog contestants are up for adoption and the event helps raise awareness of pet rescue and adoption.

Chase, a 14-year-old Chinese Crested-Harke mix from Neath in the United Kingdom, traveled further than any other contestent to compete in the World's Ugliest Dog competition. She picked up Zsa Zsa about four years ago as a rescue dog from Missouri puppy mill.

Low mortgage rates not impressing potential new home buyers
One of the problems is that once rates reach rock bottom (which is pretty well where they are right now) the only way is up. This could be a good time for more young Americans to take out a Roth Individual Retirement Account or IRA for short.
