Apple's 2018 MacBook Pro Keyboards Include Dust Blocking Membrane To Prevent Failures

While Apple itself has not said anything about fixing its keyboard beyond the fact that the third-generation keyboard is quieter than those that came before it, fix specialist iFixit has torn down one of the new computers and confirmed there there is a new silicone membrane in place on each key.

Apple yesterday unveiled its 2018 refresh of the MacBook Pro lineup. The new machines were first announced on Thursday, with online ordering available that day. We suspected at the time that Apple fixed the major keyboard issue that's been affecting all MacBook Pros since the 2016 redesign, but Apple would not confirm it officially. Only the MacBook Pro with Touch Bar received an upgrade this year, including Intel's latest chips, up to 32GB of RAM, and up to 4GB of SSD storage. Luckily, the folks at iFixit were able to obtain an early production model of the 2018 15-inch MacBook Pro and dissected the keyboard.

Jaguar escapes at Audubon Zoo, killing six other animals before recapture
The jaguar apparently didn't eat any of the animals; the attacks were likely part of territorial aggression, Hamilton said. Burks said the zoo will investigate the incident, including how the jaguar got free.

The keyboard on the new MacBook Pro features a thin rubberized layer under its keycaps that prevents dust and debris from getting into the butterfly mechanism, reports iFixit.

The iFixit team claims that the new MacBook Pro keyboards use a silicone membrane underneath every key to keep away dust particles from finding their way inside and jamming it up.

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton went on a Wimbledon date
It's fitting that the two royals stepped out for their first engagement without their husbands to take in a sport they both enjoy. Stepping out together at the All England club, Kate wore a pretty white polka dot dress by her go-to designer Jenny Packham .

Apple even has a patent for the very same technology behind its third-generation keyboard. Although this is just an opinion, iFixit has backed up its claim with an Apple patent, that shows the exact same design, even being labeled that the membrane was created to "prevent and/or alleviate contaminant ingress".
