Brexit row: Jeremy Hunt replaces Boris Johnson as United Kingdom foreign minister

Culture Secretary's don't seem to last very long these days and indeed Hancock, who now moves up to replace Jeremy Hunt MP as the UK Health Secretary, was only promoted to the position of Culture Secretary in January 2018 when he replaced Karen Bradley MP (here).

Culture secretary Matt Hancock will fill Hunt's role at the Department of Health and Social Care while MP Jeremy Wright will take Hancock's old job.

Mr Johnson stepped down earlier on Monday, criticising Prime Minister Theresa May in his resignation letter, warning that Brexit is "dying" and Britain is "headed for the status of a colony".

Davis resigned late Sunday, saying May's plan to maintain close trade and regulatory ties with the European Union gave "too much away, too easily".

Among Tory Brexiteers there was deepening anger at the proposals agreed at Friday's meeting of the Cabinet at Chequers which they branded as "Brexit in name only". After Johnson's departure she said she was "sorry and a little surprised" at his decision after ministers appeared to back her proposals.

Addressing parliament just minutes after her office announced that Johnson, the face of Brexit for many in Britain, had quit, May told MPs she appreciated the work of her two ministers. Dominic Raab, the former minister of state for housing and planning, was named the new Brexit secretary.

With Johnson's resignation, a noisy rebellion among the ranks could gather steam.

But as Foreign Secretary in May's government, he was prone to gaffes and criticized for not being on top of his brief.
