Dutch museum 'shocked' to learn of Wonderboom plane crash

One person has died and approximately 20 people have been injured after a plane crashed in Wonderboom, Pretoria, ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said on Tuesday.

"Seen on Sunday morning at Pretoria's Wonderboom Airport‚ ex Rovos Air Convair 340 ZS-BRV".

Emer-G-Med Chief Operating Officer Jurgen Kotze said the four critically injured patients were still entrapped in the aircraft.

"Their injuries range from minor to critical", he said.

The plane, which had been expected at the Aviodrome, 'crashed in South Africa during take-off on a test flight, ' it said.

It had been due to fly to Aviodrome via east Africa, through Egypt, Croatia, Austria to the Netherlands.

Paramedics are treating the patients and will thereafter transport them to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

The plane was a Dutch cargo MAC Martin's Air Charter owned by Air France-KLM.

According to the Aviodrome's website, it cost 350,000 euros ($410,000) to make the plane "flight ready" and buy parts for the planned trip to Europe.

The South African Civil Aviation Authority said a team of investigators had already been sent to the scene to investigate the cause of the accident.
