Google introduces new job search feature for United Kingdom workers

Starting today, searches for key phrases like "jobs near me" or "banking jobs" on Google will return results inside a new feature that shows jobs across the United Kingdom from popular sites.

Job hunters will be able to save jobs, and even set themselves up with email notifications to that they never miss an opportunity. Of course, it remains to be seen as to how successful Google's play in the job market space pans out, particularly given that its original aim for the USA rollout was to help "the players in the ecosystem to be more successful".

The Google For Jobs service already exists in the US, Spain and parts of Africa, where the firm claims to have already connected millions of people to new job opportunities.

Following the announcement, Joy Xi, product manager at Google Search, told the London Evening Standard: "Job hunting can be challenging - jobs are listed on different sites across the web and it's not always easy to identify which jobs are suited to your needs or where to find them. Employers may be feeling the impact of this too: three quarters of United Kingdom employers face talent shortages and have issues filling open positions with the right candidate".

Some of the sites providing listings to the service include Guardian Jobs, Haymarket,, LinkedIn, Glassdoor and CV-Library.
