The Department of Justice late Friday released via the FBI's FOIA Vault a redacted copy of the Carter Page FISA warrant application and several renewals, which accuse Page of being a Russian spy, as summarized by the New York Times - which obtained a copy of the materials through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit.
The FBI released documents on Saturday related to the surveillance of Mr Page as part of an investigation into whether he conspired with the Russian government to undermine the election.
The secretive court signed off on surveilling Page.
"The FBI believes Page has been the subject of targeted recruitment by the Russian government", the initial FBI application says before it is blacked out and continues: "undermine and influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential election in violation of U.S. criminal law".
The FBI believed Carter Page was "collaborating and conspiring with the Russian government" at that time.
Tiger Woods' final round at British Open | The Open Championship
He will try to become the first player since Padraig Harrington in 2008 to win golf's oldest championship in consecutive years. Jordan Spieth , Xander Schauffele and Kevin Kisner are in a three-way tie for the lead entering the final round at The Open .
He said: "You talk about misleading the courts, it's just so misleading".
The charges form part of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into USA intelligence findings that Russians conspired to tilt the election in Mr Trump's favour, and whether any of his campaign aides colluded.
The new allegations against Page have been a target of the president's ire since they surfaced Saturday evening, prompting him to engage in a series of tweetstorms calling out Democrats, the Mueller probe and most recently, lingering criticism of his Helsinki, Finland summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump is not named in the document but identified only as "Candidate #1". "The Rigged Witch Hunt, headed by the 13 Angry Democrats (and now 4 more have been added, one who worked directly for Obama W.H.), seems intent on damaging the Republican Party's chances in the November Election" President Trump tweeted.
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the ranking member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, said the documents "affirm that our nation faced a profound counterintelligence threat prior to the 2016 election" and that authorities "took appropriate steps". Yet Schiff said the materials shouldn't have been released during an ongoing investigation because of national security.
Migos rapper Offset arrested by federal agents
Offset (real name: Kiari Kendrell Cephus) and his passenger, bodyguard Senay Gezahgn, were both were arrested . The rapper was reportedly pulled over by police just outside of Atlanta, Georgia, for having tinted windows.
The documents' release comes nine days after 12 Russians were charged with hacking Democratic officials in the 2016 U.S. elections.
In the documents released Saturday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation cited a source which, it said, had a history of providing reliable information regardless of the source's reasons for conducting research into Trump's ties to Russian Federation.
The application also alleges that Mr. Page "has established relationships with Russian government officials, including Russian intelligence officers".
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, a sometime Trump ally, pleaded with the president on CBS News to impose "new sanctions, heavy-handed sanctions" on Russian Federation before Putin visits Washington.
Page believes the FBI's mole, professor Stefan Halper, was secretly spying on him as part of a "politically motivated" investigation of Team Trump, using fake sympathy to gain his trust - all while fishing for dirt on Page's ties to Russian Federation, where he'd worked as an energy consultant.
