LeBron James to join NBA Lakers in four-year, $154 million deal

LeBron James is going to be a Laker. For now, Houston is the top challenger in the even-more-loaded Western Conference, though they took a step back on the first day of free agency by losing wing Trevor Ariza to the Phoenix Suns.

Nicknamed "King James", he is possibly the NBA's most dominant player, with countless endorsement deals. And while Riley has won three more of his own as a coach and executive in Miami, the roots of Riley and Johnson's success are with the 80s Showtime Lakers and their championship machine. However, with James now in town, that will be coming to an end.

But after 15 years in the NBA, James didn't need much convincing nor elaborate proposals. Unlike other bookmakers who chose to keep taking bets, Westgate had closed betting on the National Basketball Association over the weekend as free agency began.

National Basketball Association superstar LeBron James is to join the Los Angeles Lakers on a four-year deal worth $US154 million ($NZ227), his management company Klutch Sports Group has announced. His high school games were shown on ESPN and often moved to a college gymnasium to meet ticket demands. Paul informed the Cavs on Friday morning that the four-time MVP would not opt in to the final year of his contract; James was scheduled to make $35.6 million in 2018-19.

Iran and Saudi Arabia broke off diplomatic relations in 2016 and are locked in several proxy wars in the Middle East, including in Yemen.

He was spotted in Los Angeles, which stirred speculation that he was interested in the Lakers. A starting lineup pairing LeBron and Leonard would be among the most formidable in the league.

Julius Randle could be back with the Lakers on a one-year deal, or if he signs the qualifying offer because there are not other offers out there (it's a very tight market), but the Lakers are not sacrificing their cap space for anyone.

James reportedly agreed to a four-year, $154 million deal with the team.

James isn't expected to attend the meeting, which is the first significant chance for the 76ers to make a free-agent pitch to James, league sources said.

LeBron returns to LA to plot next move as free agency nears
The only problem was they got swept by the Warriors , and James appeared to be mulling free agency before the series even ended. Adding that dynamic duo would give the Lakers more leverage in trade talks for Kawhi Leonard , who wants out of San Antonio .

Afterward, James yelled, "Cleveland, this is for you", into Doris Burke's microphone.

And unlike eight years ago when he ripped James for leaving, Cavs owner Dan Gilbert thanked him.

One of them is Lance Stephenson, who famously blew into LeBron's ear during a playoff game, creating a meme and being immortalised in a Nicki Minaj lyric.

Lakers will meet with Clint Capela
The Rockets can sign Paul to a max contract worth $205 million over five seasons, and they can match any offer made to Capela. Last season, the Rockets were the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, and they finished with the NBA's best record at 65-17.
