Liverpool have signed the goalkeeper Alisson for a world-record fee of €75m (£66.9m), subject to a medical.

And he claims Karius, following his mistakes in the Champions League final, can not be relied upon, even as a backup to Alisson.

According to Paul Joyce, the medical is set to take place on Thursday, with Liverpool preparing a six-year contract for the 25-year-old - not a five-year deal, as had been reported earlier.

Liverpool were the only club to score against him in the Champions League at the Stadio Olimpico last season, striking twice in a 4-2 semifinal defeat but progressing to the final.

I hope we are in a situation where we don't need to think about using these two [against West Ham]. He has been a subject of interest for the Reds as they ingressed the transfer window with a lookout for the man who could complete their jigsaw at goal and has perhaps identified Alisson for the task.

The teenager appeared just once for England at the World Cup and, considering his age, the Liverpool boss will consider letting him come back earlier than originally planned.
