New Air Force One Will Be 'Red, White And Blue,' Trump Says


President Donald Trump unveiled his plans for major changes - inside and out - to Air Force One during his recent trip to Scotland, CBS News reported.

Trump says he wondered, after reaching a deal with Boeing for the new aircraft, whether to stick with the baby blue color that's recognized worldwide.

"Boeing gave us a good deal", Trump told CBS, adding that he saved $1.5 billion on the project.

Air Force One's iconic blue-and-white color scheme may be on the way out.

Trump derisively calls the hue a "Jackie Kennedy color" and wanted something that 'looks more American, 'Axios news website reported earlier this month.

Designer Raymond Loewy - who created the famous Coca Cola bottle - picked the typeface because of its similarity to the lettering in the first printed copy of the Declaration of Independence. "And it's going be red, white and blue, which I think is appropriate".

Trump told CBS he was able to save $1.5 billion on the deal, although those savings couldn't be confirmed.

But in 2016, Trump himself claimed that the initial price tag for the new planes was roughly US$4 billion, a figure that he decried as "ridiculous" at the time.

The planes are expected to be completed by December 2024, the Department of Defense said. "But by the time it gets built, you're going to have many presidents, hopefully, use it and enjoy it".
