Xherdan Shaqiri Set To Be Liverpool's Third Signing Of The Summer

Liverpool have already spent heavily in the transfer market this summer in the shape of midfielders Naby Keita and Fabinho and Jurgen Klopp is keen to strengthen his forward line with a mind to challenging for the Premier League title. A deal for the Lyon captain may yet be resurrected after France's World Cup campaign, however.

Liverpool are confident of making Xherdan Shaqiri their third summer signing after opening transfer talks with Stoke City over the Switzerland worldwide.

Shaqiri scored eight times for Stoke last season and has made 92 appearances in total since joining from Inter in 2015.

And at £12m he represents a huge bargain.

Shaqiri's involvement at the World Cup ended last week when Switzerland were knocked out of the tournament by Sweden.

Following Stoke's relegation to the Championship, the 26-year-old expressed a desire to remain in the Premier League, recently stating it is "no secret" he will leave the bet365 Stadium.

What's clear as well is that he would be brought in as back-up to Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, rather than a starter.

Well there's now been an update on that particular saga and it's nothing but good news for those Liverpool fans that want Wilson to stay.

Shaqiri's career makes for impressive reading despite the recent relegation with Stoke, with stints at Bayern Munich and Inter Milan displaying the huge potential the 5'7 winger possessed earlier in his playing days. It's completely up to the player and Klopp.
