Charlotte Rae, Mrs. Garrett on Facts of Life, dies at 92


Charlotte Rae, the Emmy Award-nominated actress who starred in popular television sitcoms The Facts of Life and Diff'rent Strokes, has died at the age of 92. I'm feeling so terrific and so glad to be above ground.

In 1978, Rae was cast as Diff'rent Strokes housekeeper Edna Garrett, a role which would go on to define her career. Initially set at a girls' boarding school, that NBC series ran for nine seasons, though Rae left after its seventh year.

Rae shared many of her Hollywood experiences - including 44 years of sobriety and discovering that her husband, John Strauss, was bisexual - in her memoir, The Facts of My Life, released in 2015. "I'm grateful for the life I've already had".

Rae added that she wasn't surprised the show continued to be adored by fans.

Rae had survived a bout with pancreatic cancer in 2009, having caught the disease early following the deaths of her mother, uncle and sister to the disease. I lost my hair, but I had attractive wigs.

On the way up, Rae rubbed elbows with all the up-and-coming talents of the time, she even roomed with actress Cloris Leachman who would also later play the den mother role on "Facts" after Rae left the show in 1986.

Rae also appeared in episodes of ER, Life, Pretty Little Liars, Girl Meets World, The King of Queens, The Brothers Flub and Diagnosis Murder.

In 2014, the cast including Mindy Cohn, Geri Jewell, Lisa Whelchel and Nancy McKeon all got back together for a 35-year reunion. Her other son Andy Strauss died in 1999.

According to Deadline, a reboot of "The Facts of Life" is in early stages at Sony Pictures TV.

Speaking out on her 91st birthday in April 2017, the veteran star proved that she was living her life to the fullest. [In my book] I want to tell everybody to celebrate every day, to savor the day and be good to yourself, love yourself, and then you can be good to others and be of service to others, ' she sad in a Statement.
