Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma is yet to travel to Merseyside despite Everton trying to push through a deal to sign him on loan.

Manchester United were earlier linked with the likes of Harry Maguire, Toby Alderweireld and even Yerry Mina but failed in their pursuit of all three players.

Zouma, 23, spent last season on loan with Stoke City, making 34 Premier League appearances to confirm his fitness after a knee injury limited his opportunities at Chelsea.

José Mourinho does not expect any Manchester United deadline-day signings
As it stands, Alderweireld and Maguire are considered too expensive, while Bayern Munich have knocked back a loan move for Boateng.

Set to don the red of Manchester United?

Everton want to add further quality to their ranks following a hectic finale to the summer transfer window, with Zouma identified as a loan target.

He said the team didn't agree with his belief that National Football League players should stand during the anthem. Kaepernick applauded the Dolphins players shortly after the display for their protest of "systemic oppression".

Mourinho was the Chelsea manager when Zouma arrived in 2014, and he seemingly has a lot of belief in the Frenchman, although it's hard to see how he will boost his options in the short-term.

The Toffees were busy in the final hours of the transfer window with Brazil midfielder Bernard and Barcelona pair Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes arriving before the deadline passed on Thursday afternoon.

The Mirror believe Everton submitted a deal sheet that could go allow them to sign the France worldwide, despite the deal going beyond the 5pm deadline for Premier League clubs.

According to The Times, Everton are now on the brink of completing a deal for the French defender.
