Fallout 76 won't be on Steam

It's possible the company is looking to determine whether or not it needs Steam to reach most of its audience, or if people will be content to purchase its games without involving Valve.

Fallout 76 launches this November 14, and you can pre-order now to get access to the beta, which looks to be launching around October, with no date set in stone just yet.

Some had assumed this would be the case, seeing as the Steam logo didn't appear anywhere on the site, and no mentions of the platform were made in the FAQ itself. Pay attention, however, and you'll realise Bethesda has been trying to do this for years.

Obviously, players won't be able to experience all that Fallout 76 has to offer in the beta - there will certainly be restrictions - but this detail is promising regardless. It's a little surprising given that Fallout 4 was released on Steam, but Bethesda is probably confident that their own launcher is mature enough.

Bethesda's first attempt at an online game (the developer, not the publisher who has released Elder Scrolls Online) will likely be a rough one given their track record with single player games.
