Since Jeff Sessions is recused on the matter of the Russian Federation probe, the responsibility of deciding whether or not to fire Mueller, if Trump were to ask for this, falls to Rosenstein. Rosenstein was, in fact, appointed to his position by Trump himself.

Republicans need to keep control of the House to protect President Trump from the Russian Federation investigation, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes said at a recent fundraiser, according to an audio recording released Wednesday. Firing Rosenstein is also an option, if the impeachment route fails.

In comments captured in an audio recording aired Wednesday by "The Rachel Maddow Show", Nunes laid out in stark terms the rationale for preserving the GOP majority in Congress.

Democratic lawmakers and pundits quickly condemned the remarks, saying they indicated Nunes was attempting to obstruct justice by suggesting Rosenstein's investigation, headed by special counsel Robert Mueller, should be quashed.

Kim Kardashian changes daughter's name, 'it doesn't flow'
Kim Kardashian left fans fawning over her two youngest children after she posted a picture of the "inseparable" siblings. Kim also shared her worries about forming a bond with her youngest child. "You guys, we've never had a feud", Kim said.

"Now if somebody thinks that my campaign or Cathy's campaign is colluding with the Chinese, or you name the country, hey, could happen, it would be a very bad thing if Cathy was getting secrets from the Portuguese, let's say, just because I'm Portuguese, my family was", Nunes said, using McMorris Rodgers as an example in his hypothetical. "That means it would derail or largely delay a big part of our agenda ... and it would clearly dramatically delay the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to go to the Supreme Court", he said.

"If Jeff Sessions won't un-recuse and Mueller won't clear the President, we're the only ones, which is really the danger. That's why I keep - and thank you for saying it, by the way - I mean, we have to keep all these seats". "If we do not keep the majority, all of this goes away", he added.

Mueller's team and Trump's lawyers have been negotiating an interview for months.

An impeachment vote, Nunes said, would "tie the Senate into knots".

Could it be that Mueller will get fired immediately after the midterms?

"Look at the Senate Intel Committee, led by Republican Sen". But he somehow still wants the investigation into Trump to end.

Sen. Mitch McConnell has said that he anticipates a Kavanaugh confirmation to happen by October 1, but that remains to be seen.

Nunes, who has been among the most vocal critics of Rosenstein and the Department of Justice (DOJ), reasoned to supporters that the impeachment process was "a bit complicated" because the Senate would have to deal with much of the fallout.
