Ronaldo reassures football fans over his health from Ibiza hospital

No-one at the private hospital Ronaldo is now said to be a patient at could be contacted early on Sunday for comment.

"Friends, I had a strong bout of flu in Ibiza and had to be taken to hospital on Friday but everything is ok", the 41-year-old said in a message on his official Twitter account.

Former Real Madrid striker, Ronaldo De Lima, is reportedly in intensive care in an Ibiza hospital, after coming down with pneumonia.

Ronaldo was in the public hospital until midnight on Friday, when he requested a discharge and entered the private clinic in Ibiza.

Ronaldo is believed to have arrived in Ibiza for a summer holiday a few days ago before he fell sick.

At the time, the Brazilian managed to handle the indisposition humorously with his trademark smile via tweet from his hospital bed saying: "Good morning to all those who began the New Year with dengue".

Since retirement, however, he has battled thyroid problems and gained significant weight.

Symptoms - which include a cough and difficulty breathing - can develop suddenly over 24 to 48 hours.
